Reasons to be Thankful This Year

Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 106:1

I'm a writer (and attorney), so I'm into words and their nuances. So as I started thinking about Thanksgiving last week (yes, a little late to the party!), I went to dictionary.com. Here's what it gives as a definition for grateful:

Adjective:
1) Warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received; thankful.
2) expressing or actuated by gratitude; a grateful letter
3) pleasing to the mind or senses; agreeable or welcome; refreshing: A grateful breeze

Warmly or deeply appreciative. I hope we can all look back on this year and think of several things that make us deeply appreciative.

Here are a few of mine:
  • I'd asked God if I could start speaking more this year, and He brought several opportunities my way including several women's retreats, a few MOPS meetings, and a writing conference.
  • I wrote two novellas, which was such fun because these novellas are in collections with other authors. Writing is so often solitary, but this last year it was more collaborative...a very fun switch.
  • Our family adjusted to having a fourth child...and I cannot imagine our family without any of the four. They all add a richness and distinct personality. I love watching them grow and talking to God about what He has in mind for their destinies.
  • The freedom to worship God unabashed. As our church has moved locations and adopted a new name, I am even more grateful for the way our country allows the freedom to do so without government interference.
  • My husband who provides so well for us and gives wings to my dreams and is the world's best daddy. I am very blessed indeed.
What brings a refreshing breeze of gratefulness to your heart this year?

Leave it to you to look up the official (legal) definition - hee hee! I'm grateful for friends whose faith inspires me daily. Friends like you! I'm also grateful that God is so creative and tender in the blessings He sends our way... a conversation at the right moment, an encouraging email, a bluejay on a branch against the snow, a wisp of melody that lifts the heart. Happy Thanksgiving!
