Saturday night our church had a prayer meeting -- in response to the Response held in Houston at Reliant Stadium.
As we were sitting there worshiping and praying, I kept thinking about Abraham and God in Genesis 18. Yes, things are bad. We've got an economic crisis, a cultural crisis, wars, terrorism, natural disasters. We need God in an absolutely desperate way.
Are we willing to plead with God for our nation as Abraham pleaded with God for Sodom and Gomorrah? Do we truly believe that God will hear our pleas and respond? Do we have the faith and relationship with God to know He desires to respond when His people pray?
We sing songs that we are God's friend, but we don't pray like it. Just look at Genesis 18. See Abraham's boldness and faith as he keeps coming back to God.
Abraham approached God. He came back again. Once again he came back. I believe God is waiting to have His heart moved and His judgment stayed by a friend who will challenge God because he or she knows God's heart. And these friends are secure enough to debate God like Abraham and Moses because they know their God.
I don't know about you, but that challenges me to develop that type of relationship with God. And to ask Him to give me His heart for this country and world, so that I will in turn carry the conviction to plead for it. Will you join me in that journey?
